Tawny Owls - Miss C Evans

Croeso i Tawny Owls!

The class teacher for the Tawny Owls class is Miss C Evans, with her is Mrs S Withers.


Our topics this year are:


Autumn Term:

A Child’s War and Pits and Ponies – Welsh History Projects- We will be learning all about life as a child during the Second World War, researching what happened to the children who were evacuated to Wales during the Blitz.  We will also be learning about the coal industry in Wales and the impact the coal mines had on Wales and the people who worked down them.

Blood Heart - We will be learning all about the circulatory system and looking closely at how the heart works and how to keep a healthy heart.


Spring Term:

Frozen Kingdom- We will be researching facts and figures of climate, temperature, habitats and eco systems in some of the coldest parts of the world.

Darwin’s Delights - We will be studying Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. Focussing on how animals adapt to their environment and researching some of the world’s greatest explorers and naturalists.


Summer Term:

Tomorrows World- This topic focuses on ICT where we will learn how to set up a class blog and build a web homepage as well as looking at how we can improve tout school website. We will also be building robots and circuits, breaking codes and investigate all the latest gad

Hola Mexico - We finish the year by exploring Mexico. We will be learning all about the unique country, from its towering temples and stunning geography to its pulsing rhythms and fun packed festivals.


Homework and PE:

Our Homework day is as and when informed by Miss Evans and our PE day is a Monday.  Please ensure children have PE kit in school at all time.  Kit will be sent home at the end of each half term for washing.


Additional information about our class:

In Year 6, all pupils will get the chance to go rock climbing. 7 children will be chosen for each block and they will go every Friday morning for 10 weeks.  As part of the PPA sessions the children will be taking part in specialist sport and music sessions this year.  In Year 6, children can be awarded as a “Super 6”. The children who are awarded with this role will hold various responsibilities around the school. In order to become a Super 6 the children must demonstrate lots of qualities. These qualities are outlined in the contact that each super 6 signs. (see attached sheet)
