The class teacher for the Dormice class is Miss C Evans and with her is Mrs Peddle and Miss Davies
Our topics this year are:
Ourselves, Our Community, Our Planet - Continents, countries, different structures around the world, looking after the planet
Alchemy Island - In this topic, we will learn about survival. We’ll use our imaginations along with coding software to create a game, and learn how to read and plot co-ordinates.
Time Traveller -We will go back in time to learn about life in the past. We will predict what the future will look like and create timelines of our lives using pictures. We will write adventure stories about time travel and create a time capsule of our hopes and dreams.
Stargazers - We’ll take a trip to the stars, looking at planets and suns, and discover the amazing wonders of the night sky. read information texts to find out about the Solar System and the Sun, using mnemonics to help us remember the facts. We’ll make a Solar System and investigate the cycle of day into night. We’ll learn about Galileo, the ‘father’ of modern astronomy and his famous astronomical discoveries.Then we’ll make a space shuttle or satellite, testing the materials for durability.
Pharaohs -In this topic, we will travel to ancient Egypt when learning about the mummification process. We will be debating whether or not Tutankhamun’s tomb should’ve been opened. Studying historical sources will help us learn more about the Pharaohs, the Egyptian gods and ancient religious beliefs.
Beast Creator - This half term we will be investigating minibeasts, all shapes and sizes! We will look at arachnids, insects, molluscs and myriapods. We’ll learn how to categorise insects and explore woodlice habitats. We will be creating ‘bug hotels’ and writing advertisements to attract minibeasts to stay in them.
Homework and PE:
Our Homework day is to be confirmed, and our PE day is a Monday.
Additional information about our class:
On a Tuesday Miss Evans has management time so Mrs Withers covers the class.
As we have a late lunch, the children are able to bring in 2 snacks. Please can these not be sweets.
Please ensure that you child brings appropriate outdoor clothing to school, including a coat as we will be having outdoor learning sessions no matter the weather. Children can leave a pair of wellies/ outdoor clothing on their peg if they wish.
All learners to bring in water bottles with their names on it. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer cups or use our water fountains at the moment. Energy drinks are not allowed
