At Penygarn Community Primary School our broad and balanced curriculum consists of all the planned activities that we organise in order to promote learning, personal growth and development.
The curriculum includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich the experience of the children. It also encompasses the ‘hidden curriculum’, or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their true potential.

Through a thematic approach the school endeavours to provide the most exciting and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. Throughout the school we have developed 'topic overviews' which set out the topic and learning experiences we plan to deliver using the Cornerstones curriculum. These topic overviews are monitored, reviewed and evaluated every year to ensure that the best possible learning experiences are given to all children.

A new curriculum is being developed for settings and schools in Wales. The curriculum will be available by April 2019 for feedback. A final version will be available in January 2020, and will be used throughout Wales by 2022. You can find the documentation regarding this by following this link:
