Croeso i Water Voles!
Penygarn Community Primary School have been working very hard to develop our excellent Nurture setting. There have been lots of developments over the last few years and we are very proud of the high quality provision we deliver.
This year we have moved classrooms and are now based in Water Voles. The staff in Water Voles are Mrs Robinson, Nurture Head and Miss Webb
Nurture provides a safe, caring and friendly environment for children who struggle in a mainstream setting. The children are able to work in smaller groups and have the individual attention that they need to build friendships, trust and to develop their self-esteem. Consistency and boundaries are very important to us in Water Voles and to help is with this we use a visual daily routine timetable, a behaviour timetable, a set of Nurture rules and a class contract. We teach Literacy, Numeracy, Science, P.E. and some Welsh based on individual pupil ability. Goals and targets are also identified for each pupil using INSERTS (Literacy and Numeracy) and the Boxall Profiles (social skills).
We give a great big welcome Miss Webb to in to the Nurture class!
This term our topic is Urban Pioneers

We will follow up this visit with lots of fun activities including:

- Discussion on how we feel in our surroundings
- Taking photos of urban life at obscure and unusual angles
- Compile a survey to collect data about how often children use their local amenities
- Create tally charts and bar graphs
- Digital data input
- Art projects including graffiti, mosaics and statues
