Welcome to the Tawny Owls class where we are OWLs – Outstanding Wonderful Learners. Miss Evans is our teacher and we also have Mrs Cox as our Learning Support Assistant.
We have three wonderful topics this year.
We are starting the year off with a topic called “Gods and Gladiators”. In this topic we will be looking at all aspects of Roman life and Roman Gods. To help us with our learning we are going to visit the Roman Museum in Caerleon, where we will be able to handle Roman artefacts and try on Roman clothes. We will also be able to visit the Amphitheatre where we will be able to rein act a Gladiator Battle.
Our Science focus during the Autumn Term is Body Matters where we will be learning all about the human body its functions.
In the Spring Term our topic is “Children of the Revolution”. This topic will be focussing on the Victorian era where we will be learning about the lives of the rich and the poor and the ways of life of people in the 19th Century.
We will be learning about how our lives today are different from the children who lived in Victorian times. We will look at the jobs that people had during the Victorian times and the dangers that some of these jobs held. We will hopefully visit Big Pit were we will be able to get a better picture of some of the dangers of working down the pit.
Our Science focus during the Spring Term is Third Rock from the Sun. We will be learning all about the wonders of the earth, looking at rocks and materials.
During the Summer Term our topic is Robot Rampage. We will be learning about the amazing things that Robots can do and how they have helped the world that we live in today. We will look to book a trip Techniquest where we will be able to experience the wonders of technology today. We will be designing our own robots and will have a go at making our own.
Our Science focus during the Summer Term is Let’s Play with Physics. We will be learning about forces, magnetism, friction and electricity.
Our PE day is now on a Tuesday afternoon and/or a Thursday afternoon. Please can children keep their kits in school for the whole half term, it will ensure they are always ready to take part.
If you have returned the home school reading policy please remember to read at home and return your book each week so that you can have a new book.
Our behaviour is getting better and better - our jar of good choices is filling up on a daily basis! We are also working towards our big class reward of a pillow fight.
